Covenants and Monuments – Posted 11/8/10
Britt Jones A core value of the Band of Brothers' Ministry is to make a covenant with our God to follow Christ unconditionally - NO MATTER THE COST. We believe that our King is worthy of this type of commitment. |
There is a time for everything – Posted 9/7/10
Britt Jones "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven ... a time to mourn and and time to dance ...." (Eccl. 3:1, 4) “Does it mean He no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or are hungry or cold or in danger or threatened with death? ... No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” (Rom. 8: 35, 37) A time to mourn ... I remember the time, it was 7:00 a.m. on April 12, 2007. I received a call from our family physician who told me that my son had been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. I remember the time, it was the morning of May 16, 1998, I was rock climbing with my friend and mentor, and he slipped from a boulder and fell to his death. I remember the time, it was within a 2-week period in the fall of 1994, I was fired from my job and, because of some immoral failure on my part, was asked by my wife to leave our home... |
The Paralyzing Effect of Fear – Posted 7/9/10
Britt Jones I have a confession: I have struggled with hypochondria much of my life. This is a limp that accompanies my walk. I get bombarded with thoughts that I have something physically wrong with me, and sometimes these thoughts feel paralyzing. It is hard to admit our fears to others, because we often feel shame to say that we are afraid - especially as men. However, I know I am not alone. Just this week I had honest conversations with a couple of brothers in my foxhole who, at times, also feel paralyzed by different fears. One brother is afraid that he will not have enough work, will lose his house, and will not be able to provide for his family. Another brother is struggling with severe anxiety and depression and fears that he will never again find enjoyment in life. What do you fear? |

No Matter the Cost – Posted 5/14/10
Britt Jones The cost of discipleship is different from the cost of salvation. Salvation is a free gift to those who believe (see John 3:16). Yet before signing up to be a true disciple of the King of Kings, we are asked by Him to "consider the cost" - because you cannot become His disciple without being willing to "give up everything you own." (Luke 14:28, 33) Scripture teaches that such a decision is the "narrow road' and that "few" will say "yes" to this call (see Matt. 7:14). But it also is the pathway to living out the purposes for which we were created. We believe that we are living in important days, and that God is up to something really good in this generation. Battle lines are forming between the forces of good and the forces of evil. He is calling you out to do your part in this noble battle! |
Willing to die? – Posted 5/13/10
Britt Jones Who of us is willing to die for our faith in the Triune God and/or in the place of others? I mean...really...like as in being deader than the proverbial doornail (whatever that may be...)? One such remarkable soul was a pastor in Germany during World War II by the name of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. He had, for awhile, "escaped" to the US of A, but realizing what was taking place in his homeland, decided to leave the safety of here...and go back there to be with his people...eventually giving his life up in a concentration camp (amazing story for you to read some time). Two of his books...The Cost of Discipleship and Life Together, among other writings...helped form some important parts of the beginnings of my own spiritual journey... |
What would have become of me...? – Posted 2/10/10
Britt Jones “What would have become of me had I not believed that I would see the Lord's goodness in the land of the living! Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord." Psalms 27:13-14 the Amplified Bible This struck me as I woke this morning. I pulled out my bible in hopes of gazing into the mirror and seeing more clearly the true reflection, the true me. My wife and I wrestled last night and navigated through the combination of new and old "stuff"... |
